Fish for today
IWow, fish everywhere. Being early has its merits but equally the prices are not cheap. But the quality is there like crazy.
Yagenji jpy 40k each.
To work out landed cost ie the price you will pay divide the jpy figure by 5. This will give you a reasonable indication on the slightly conservative side.
Otsuka jpy7k each, mixed koi

PRICING
The prices I quote will be the YEN price. A good estimate of a landed costs is to divide the yen price by five to get your all in rands cost in South Africa. In other words if a fish costs 50,000 yen you can expect to pay around R10,000 for it in South Africa as a rough rule of thumb, this includes agent costs, handling, shipping, VAT and other costs.
The size of the fish will affect the price slightly, with the bigger fish costing a slight bit more proportionately (as they cost more to fly over). But this will give you a near enough approximation of the costs.
The trip begins
So the portent is ominous. A good friend called me this morning and said 'don't go, or at least delay a week'. He has been right before so that kind of puts me at a little on edge. Hope we don't land into the middle of the biggest typhoon ever recorded or that Tokyo ends up splitting into three as the island cracks up and sinks beneath the waves. Still.
We'll tough it out. Everything is packed, dates and times checked and triple checked. The excitement is building - this is an early trip over to Japan and we should see some of the first fish from the 2014 harvest.
Am going to see if we can stream Instagram videos of the fish as we go, and we'll go from there. I will try to keep this blog as active as possible so bear with. The pics I post will not be of fish that I have bought so if you see some thing you must have, then say so or hold your peace forevermore.

Japan trip
NDates are now set. We'll be in Japan landing October 11 and departing back to SA on Sunday the 19th. If you want to tag along, shout now. The itinerary is to see Niigata where we will visit everybody from Aoki to Yamazaki and in between. Then we'll see Sakuma, take in Kyoto, and then off to see Hikari and take in Himeji whilst we're at it. And we'll head off down South to take in some sights and Koi there too, just for good measure. Phew! It is going to be a great trip!

It's all beginning to happen now
First two FarmInnaBox's are starting to be put together now. Pilot projects going up to the DRC - and the first batches of kit are beginning to arrive. More orders being placed and we're going to start assembly shortly. The time frame is tight but we'll get there. We have to. Exciting and terrifying all at the same time!
